So, managing has to do with “control” and “manhandling.” It may work with horses, but not with people.
Words are not harmless. Quite the opposite. We make them up and then they shape us.
If you think of yourself as a “manager,” then you must also believe that your team’s accomplishments happen only because you are there to control them. They couldn’t possible organize themselves to get the work done without your benign influence.
That’s utter nonsense. It’s fear speaking.
They are your peers. Adults, just like you. They have their roles. Figure out what yours really is.
Give yourself a chance to grow. Change your vocabulary.
